Early the next morning Abraham took some food and a skin of water and gave them to Hagar. He set them on her shoulders and then sent her off with the boy. She went on her way and wandered in the desert of Beersheba. When the water in the skin was gone, she put the boy under one of the bushes about a bowshot away, for she thought, “I cannot watch the boy die.” And as she sat there nearby, she began to sob. God heard the boy crying, and the angel of God called to Hagar from heaven and said to her, “What is the matter Hagar? Do not be afraid; God has heard the boy crying as he lies there. Lift the boy up and take him by the hand, for I will make him into a great nation.” The God opened her eyes and she saw a well of water….(Genesis 21:4-19).
God is a God of provision.
He is faithful.
Just.
Compassionate.
I just realized last week that the well of water was always there. Hagar just couldn’t see it for her despair, her rejection, her fear.
But it was there. God had to open her eyes to see it. But it was there the whole time she thought she and Ishmael were going to die. This was the second time God had met her in the desert. The first time she called Him El Roi. “The God who sees me.”
Do you need a “well of water”?
Has rejection, fear, and despair blinded you?
Cry out to the One who has the provision and promise already waiting for you.
Trust Him. The God who sees.
“El Roi, we need you. We can be so blinded by our burdens and fears that we can’t see the provision you have for us. Please open our eyes to the answers you have for us today. Amen”
Much grace,
andy
