6 Ways to Fill a Thirsty Soul

I like summertime because the heat causes me to want to drink more water.

I’ve never been good at keeping hydrated with that clear, tasteless stuff. But I’m learning to appreciate it more and more as I get older and wiser, and I really enjoy it when I’m thirsty. Nothing quenches my thirst like water.

So, it’s good for me to get thirsty. I have a hard time drinking water if I’m not. I think many of us are the same way when it comes to our souls. We have a tendency to do our own thing and run our own life until we get thirsty for something more than this world can offer. Sometimes we just get so busy, no time to spend with the Living Water Himself and our soul is parched.

David wrote to God in Psalm 63, ” . . . my soul thirsts for you, my body longs for you in a dry and weary land where there is no water” (v. 1).

Boy,  we live in a spiritually dry world, don’t we?!  Looking back at my own life, I remember trying to fill my thirsty heart with shopping and relationships, and fun. But none of it lasted long. It all left me wanting more. And I always got spaghetti sauce on my expensive Liz Claiborne shirt. I was a sad, empty, thirsty puppy. A desperate young woman until I came back to the truth of the Bible and my need for a Savior, Jesus.

How do we fill up our thirsty souls?

Here are six ways we can drink of the Living Water based on Isaiah 12:2-6:

“Surely God is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraid. The LORD, the LORD, is my strength and my song; he has become my salvation. With Joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation. In that day you will say: “Give thanks for the LORD, call on his name, make known among the nations what he has done, and proclaim that his name is exalted. Sing to the LORD, for he has done glorious things; let this be known to all the world. Shout aloud and sing for joy, people of Zion, for great is the Holy One of Israel among you.

How do we fill our thirsty soul? If you’ve never received Christ, it’s easy . . .

  1. Ask Jesus to save you and fill you with His Spirit.
  2. Thank Him for saving you and forgiving you.
  3. Tell somebody that Jesus is your savior.
  4. Worship Him in song. (K-Love is a great radio station.)
  5. Worship Him with the way you live.
  6. Live with Him everyday, walk with Him and talk to Him and worship with other believers–Jesus is among them.

If you’ve been a Christian for awhile and you’re feeling thirsty, follow steps 1-6 too.  Sometimes we need to go back to the well and get a re-fill.

This well never runs dry.

Digging Deep to Live Fully,

Andy
