worry

Paint Your Toenails

“Who is in charge of your life? If it is you, then you have good reason to worry. But if it is I (God), then worry is both unnecessary and counterproductive. When you start to feel anxious about something, relinquish the situation to Me. Back off a bit, redirecting your focus to Me. I will either take care of the problem Myself or show you how to handle it. In this world you will have problems, but you need not lose sight of Me” (Jesus Calling, p.166).

I will either take care of the problem Myself or show you how to handle it. –God

I have experienced this sentence so many times after I’ve been frantic. I finally surrender the problem only because I’m driving myself crazy trying to fix it. But time and time again God has demonstrated to me His faithfulness and wisdom when I finally give up.

I love the peace that comes over me when I have the “ah-ha!” moment from Holy Spirit and He places in my mind the solution to the problem. These problems range from big to small things like trying to figure out how we can make it to my mother’s funeral (years ago), to answering multiple e-mails, to correcting major reference mistakes in my book.

I wish I didn’t have to go through the turmoil before I decide to let God handle it, but maybe I need those frantic moments to realize I can’t do it. Only He can. He then gets the glory in my life, and I’m given something much better than pride in my amazing problem solving abilities.

I’m given another reason to trust Him, and best of all, I am given His unfathomable peace.

I know many of us are worrying about something today. It’s part of our human nature. But I pray we will lay down that worry. Turn off the computer. Stop making the phone calls. If possible, go for a walk, listen to some worship music, or paint your toenails. It doesn’t matter what you do. Just stop trying to figure it out for awhile. God has it. He will give the answer in time.

“Do not be afraid little flock, for the Father has been pleased to give you the kingdom” (Luke 12:32).

….we have the kingdom.

Much love,
andy
