Bite of Bread: December 23-29 Reading Plan

I heard myself saying,”I can’t wait for Christmas to be over, so I can worship Jesus every day for the rest of the year.”

There is something inherently wrong with that sentence.

My kids didn’t get it. I unwisely shared my thoughts (out loud) with them. I think they were stunned. Maybe saddened. And I felt guilty after I spoke my truth.

I know I’m not the only grown-up that feels this way. The tradition of Christmas is wonderful: trees, decorations, food, cinnamon candles, gifts, cards. But the stress that comes with all of the tradition, no matter how I try to keep things simple and keep focused on the babe in the manger, seems to outweigh the reason for the season.

Yet we must try. One way to do this is to spend time with the One born to set us free from such trappings of the world. I’m hoping this reading plan will help. Wednesday morning will be hectic for many of you, but I implore you to read the scripture for that day. You may even read it to your family. Wherever you are. Whomever you’re with…read it out loud.

God is near.

  2. Funny Andy, I found myself saying, “Well Jesus, I guess I have to put my Bible away for now in order to wrap presents and make cookies…so that I can really worship you.” But He and I were just joking together of course:) Thanks for the post!
