Bite of Bread: God’s Right Hand and a plea for prayer

It’s a right handed world, and I’m left handed.

Desks at school held the writing arm on the right though sometimes one desk would have it on the left. There was never enough of those.

And I hated pencil sharpeners at school because I had to use my right hand to rotate the sharpener. I could never go as fast as my friends.

You would think this would no longer affect me now that I’m all grown up, but it still does.

Drinking coffee reminds me of my “handicap”.  Mugs often have the logo or painting on the side seen when held with the right hand. If I drink my coffee with my left hand, only a blank mug stares back at me.

Do I have any lefties out there who can commiserate?

It seems this phenomenon has persisted since the beginning of time.

In the biblical world, the right hand was the hand of power and strength.

Those who sat next to the right hand of a king held the same power and authority of the king himself. That is why Christ is seated at the right hand of God.

. . .Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us. (Romans 8:34)

So. . . I got off on a tangent, but my rambling purposes to introduce us to the verses this week that speak about the right hand. They are verses of promise and direction. Protection and guidance. Thankfully, God’s right hand is much more capable and stronger than mine.

If life is a little confusing these days, or if you are desperate for some direction, the Bite of Bread reading plan might be just what you need to journal, pray, and stand on in your journey.

Candle-flame-and-reflection

Pour your coffee. Light a candle and grab a journal. God’s word is alive, and He wants to speak to you this week.

Have you experienced being different from the majority? How did you cope? Leave a comment and encourage others.

Just a side note: The Supreme Court’s decision last week has been heavy on my mind and heart. I covet your prayers as I pray and study to possibly write a post responding to the new definition of marriage.

Reading with you,

  1. You got an “Amen!” from this Lefty. Scissors have always been the worst…followed by ladles. Ack. I look forward to considering God’s guidance this week. Blessings.

    1. Oh yeah! I forgot about scissors! How did I forget that? Thanks Tina!
