Where were you when you got the news? We were stat

Where were you when you got the news? We were stationed in Germany. A friend called me and told me to turn on our television. It felt so surreal as Lauren and I watched the towers fall.

The boys were playing outside until Mike called with instructions to get everyone inside and not go anywhere. All American areas were being locked down for our safety. Everything changed that day for all of us at home and overs-seas. It wasn't safe to be an American in a foreign land or at home anymore.

One of Lauren's friends spent the night with us because both her parents were soldiers and had to stay with their unit that night. Thankfully, she had a toothbrush in her backpack! LOL! The funny things you remember.

The German police began to guard our housing area on horseback and what was once an open neighborhood was secured with a gate and guard. The German community placed flowers and candles at the entrance in support and kindness for our country's tragedy.

So many lives lost. So many lives changed. Many are still dealing with the aftermath. We can't and shouldn't ever forget, but we must forgive to forge ahead with strength, wisdom, freedom, and resilience.

My prayer for us:
"Father, forgive us our sins. We have hurt so many in our own quest for power. Forgive our sin, and help us forgive those who caused so much pain 22 years ago. Redeem that terrible day. We love you. Amen."
