Choices, death, Joshua, life, Moses, Promised Land

The Word is Very Near You

For this day I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live and that you may love the Lord your God, listen to His voice, and hold fast to Him. For the Lord is your life…(Deuteronomy 30:19,20).

The Israelites were on the threshold of the Promised Land again. Moses was retiring from the ministry and Joshua would soon be the new leader of these fickle people. Moses is giving his final speech.

A very poor picture of the Dead Sea

Just a few verses before this scripture he says, “Now what I’m commanding today is not too difficult for you or beyond your reach. It is not up in heaven, so that you have to ask, ‘Who will ascend to heaven to get it and proclaim it to us so we may obey it?’ Nor is it beyond the sea, so that you have to ask, ‘Who will cross the sea to get it?’ No, the word is very near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart so you may obey it” (Deut. 30:11-14).

I want to write something profound, but how can you top those words?

I hope they bless you today as they blessed me when I read them. Oh how loving, trustworthy, and giving is our God. The Word is very near. Make Him your life.

Much grace and peace,
andy
