Something Better

“I will see you again.”

Our eyes met with determination. We looked at one another with solemn faces and definite nods that helped muster our faith and our confidence. This was not a forever goodbye.

These were the last words I spoke to my dying sister. Our embrace had been one I didn’t want to let go. We had cried together as we held each other. Her strength so fleeting she could no longer lift her head in a normal position. Her eyes permanently faced the floor.

But for just one moment, we were able to make eye contact. Somehow, I was able to look into her blue eyes and defy everything the current conditions promised.

This memory flooded my mind as I read the scripture in my daily devotion today.

Jesus was preparing the disciples for his death and resurrection: “Now is your time of grief, but I will see you again, and you will rejoice, and no one will take away your joy.” (John 16:22).

Even Jesus said those words! His promise was fulfilled and because of that, I stand even more determined that my promise to my sister will be fulfilled too. Not because of me, but because of my Jesus.

And no one will take away our joy.
Just a reminder of the temporary-ness (smile) of this place.
Something better is coming.
Much grace and peace,
andy
There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things will pass away (Rev. 21:4).
