Obsession Confession

You have no shall have no other gods before me (Exodus 20).
Jesus said, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind” (Matthew 22:37).
Confession: I have an obsession
The obsession is really quite silly because I know if I try to do it on my own, I will fail. Yet, that is exactly what I do, and when I do it on my own, I am obsessed with getting it perfect. But I know perfection will not come if my brain is the source.
Then to top it off, I posted the very wise words from Jesus Calling yesterday which reminded me that whatever my brain is consumed with, is an idol.
Oooo…I don’t like that word.
So, I’m honestly telling you I have to practice what I preach.
Today I’ve vowed to set the writing aside of which I have been obsessed. Can’t look at it. Can’t think about it. Every time I am tempted to sit down and hit the document icon on my computer and pull up my draft, I will open my Bible instead! Every time my thoughts began to tiptoe toward thinking about the drafted article, I will turn those thoughts to thanksgiving and praise to the Lord.
The very first commandment God gave His people was a very wise one. Oh how we need Him alone to be our God.
Jesus completed this commandment. “You shall love God with every part of your being.”
When we love Him, we want Him to be our God. Love with the heart. Love with the will. Love with the mind.
I’m setting aside my obsession today to love on my God.
What is your obsession? What do you need to lay down today so that your mind can be on God?
Much grace and peace,
andy
