Is Your Heart Restless?

There is  time and a season for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven….What does the worker gain from his toil? I have seen the burden God has laid on men. He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end (Eccl. 3:1,9,10).

I’m at a funny place in life; I’m starting to understand the empty nest syndrome and mid-life crisis. Not that my nest is empty, but one little bird has flown away and the other two are very self-sufficient (which is a good thing). They still want momma bird to bring back worms to the nest for supper, but other than that, life is changing.

I am needing to re implement some very important precepts I put into place years ago when the kids were very small and I was home 24/7. Ironic isn’t it? But Truth applies in all different situations because it’s not the circumstance that creates the need but the heart.

Twenty years ago my heart was restless. I feel that same restlessness today–that searching for the eternal value in what I’m doing. That searching for new purpose in the midst of this new season. Yet I know God’s economy and mine are so very different. And what may seem as unproductive to me, God sees as good. I know that implementing thanksgiving, prayer to love the people and place where I am in my life, and worshiping God every waking moment will not only get me through to the other side of this restless place, it allows God to do miracles; He uses me in the midst of my own problem. And there is nothing that gives value and purpose and diminishes the power of the problem like knowing you’re in the will of God.

What about you? How’s your heart? What eternal purpose do you think God is doing in you right now?

I hear Him whispering to snuggle up closer between His shoulders. He wants us to hear His heartbeat, not ours. List the things you’re thankful for, turn up the worship music, and pray to love the season you’re in right now. He has set eternity in our hearts. Can you feel it?

Much love and grace,
andy
