favor, proverbs, Rebekah, Trust

A Good Breakfast

I have sat with the Lord in silence for a long time this morning after eating from His table. The meal He sat before me today was one of strength and hope. It was fulfilling and satisfying. Funny how the scriptures can fill my stomach as they do my spirit sometimes. May I share with you that in which the Lord encouraged me?

I read the story of Abraham’s servant praying for success to find the right girl for Isaac. It’s a wonderful story. The words that stood out to me were his prayer. “Oh Lord, God of my master Abraham, give me success today, and show kindness to my master Abraham…” (Gen. 23:12). He then bravely prayed a “fleece” of sorts. He prayed he would know the girl by her actions- that she would give him water and also offer to water his camels. This was exactly what Rebekah did. There was no doubt in Abraham’s servant’s mind or that of Rebekah’s family that she was the one for Isaac. Though I didn’t read the rest of that story today, I know that it was love at first sight when Isaac and Rebekah met. Fancy that.

I’ve two friends facing some difficult situations today. Their’s isn’t like that of Abraham’s servant who needed wisdom to choose the right girl, rather they are being placed in situations of judgment. They need favor…success with one of authority over them. I’ve been praying for them; asking the Lord to grant them success. But even as I type these words, I believe the Lord has spoken in my spirit to pray for my friends to have the favor of Rebekah rather than Abraham’s servant. I believe the Lord directed Rebekah’s actions that day, but those actions were natural because she had a heart of generosity and love. Perhaps the lesson isn’t in the servant’s prayer for success, but Rebekah’s generous and trusting spirit. The Lord did bless her.

My Bible reading ended with Proverbs 3. I think it fitting with the lessons I’ve been pondering today from Rebekah’s story. “Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. Then you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man. Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight (he will direct your paths)” 3:3-6.

Both the servant and Rebekah held these virtues. The servant acknowledged the Lord in his ways. I believe Rebekah did too with love and faithfulness adorned around her neck. She and her family had to have trusted the Lord greatly to make such an agreement. They had no doubt that the events of that day were from the Lord. May we trust the Lord with such strength. I pray for my friends facing trials today to have the spirit and favor of Rebekah.

What did you have for breakfast, and what did your meal taste of today? Let’s encourage eachother with His Word and what we’re learning.

Much love my friends,

andy
