A Changing God

I continue to be amazed by the dichotomy of God. The longer I study, and the more I live, my cookie cutter, poly-ana faith is challenged. Yet, as it is challenged, it is deepened. I’m forced to trust in a God who dares to take me through difficult things to refine my faith. I’m forced to challenge my own doctrines and those of my friends. And I’ve begun to realize that God is the same yet always changing.

We live in the middle of the now and the not yet which can make faith a little difficult at times. Jesus is reigning, but He is not. God is love, but God is justice. Jesus is the lion of Judah yet He is the lamb of God. How’s that for dichotomy?

I read something the other day that utterly fascinated and thrilled me. The visuals it brought into my mind were refreshing and alluring. The book is Heaven, by Randy Alcorn. He was describing what it will be like to worship God forever. He was addressing the fear people have of heaven being boring. But Randy wrote, “Today, many Christians have come to depreciate or ignore the beatific vision, supposing that beholding God would be mere passing interest, becoming monotonous over time. But those who know God know that he is anything but boring. Seeing God will be dynamic, not static. It will mean exploring new beauties, unfolding new mysteries –forever” (p. 195).

I love those sentences. Our faith is so simple yet so complex. Christianity is anything but boring. It’s an adventure. The adventure will continue in heaven where we will stand face to face with the breath of life. We will hear His heartbeat. We will dance to its rhythm. I want to dance to it now.

If you thought you had God figured out, but the rug was ripped out from under your feet. Hold on. He’s got a new revelation for you of who He is. He wants to bring you deeper into His presence. He is dynamic and changing, but His faithfulness will never change or end. The more we know Him now, the sweeter it will be for eternity. Go deeper. He’s calling. Don’t be afraid of change. Let it draw you to Him.

“Therefore, sisters, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way opened up for us through the curtain, that is, his body, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith….Let us hold unswervingly to the hope that we profess for He who promised is faithful.” (Hebrews 10:19-23)

Much love,
andy
