Today is Not…

“Today is not about you.”

“What Lord?”

“Today is not about you.”

“Oh…okay. Mmm….what does that look like? What do you want me to do?”

This was yesterday’s conversation. I smile just thinking about it knowing that this new mantra is not just for yesterday but everyday.

It was a good lesson, and one I’m still pondering. Every time I caught myself thinking about myself I said in my head, “Today is not about me!”

It was quite funny and freeing actually.

It made me realize how often I think about myself during the day.

What about you? With the exception of Mother Theressa, I think most of us think about our lives a lot during a 24 hour period.

Why are we on this earth? Many of us are just trying to survive. But survival mode is centered around one thing. Us.

What should be our center?

Yesterday, I thought He wanted me to focus on others rather than myself. But I knew that even focusing on others held an element of me in it. A sort of striving.

But there is no strife when I lay down my “trying” and focus not on myself or others but Him.

In Jesus is peace. And His filling is so much fuller than anything on this earth. His pleasure in us brings more joy than anything here can. Only when I’m filled with Him will my service to others be filling too.

So today when my thoughts turn toward me, I plan on saying, “Today is not about me, it’s about you Lord!” I’m smiling just thinking about it. Want to join me?

Up to this time you have not asked for a [single] thing in My Name [as presenting all that I AM]; but now ask and keep on asking and you will receive, so that you joy (gladness, delight) may be full and complete. John 16:24 (AMP)
