morning prayer, Trust

This Morning’s Conversation

Your sense of security must not rest in your possessions or in things going your way. I am training you to depend on Me alone, finding fulfillment in my Presence. This entails being satisfied with much or little, accepting either as My will for the moment. Instead of grasping and controlling, you are learning to release and receive. Cultivate this receptive stance by trusting Me in every situation.
~ Jesus Calling p, 326

Staring at my staircase and shiny wooden floor this morning, I heard myself pray in the quietness of a sleeping house, “Lord, can we live here for at least five years?”

I was surprised by my own words, yet two kids in college, a declining economy, and our bank account point to the wisdom of downsizing. Perhaps the prayer resulted from a conversation with Mike yesterday. Nevertheless, it surprised me because I’ve started to settle in this home after three years. It has taken awhile, but it’s starting to feel like….mine.

The words from Jesus Calling seemed to be God’s response to my selfish yet honest petition. I had to smile.

“God, you are so amazing. So funny. So good.”

As my dialogue with the Lord continued my prayers migrated from our needs to the needs of others He has placed on my path. Those who really need His intervention. Friends fighting cancer. A teacher on the battlefield. A woman who struggles with self-esteem. Friends losing their home.

It felt so good to spend time praying for others. My problems seemed to dissipate, perhaps placed in perspective, and it was easier to hand Him the house and our future. I love how He does that.

What do you need to trust Him with today? Read the words of Jesus Calling and let Him direct your thoughts and prayers to the needs of others.

It’s gonna be a good day!

Grace and peace,
andy
