eternity, God's love, goodness of God, heavens, Jesus, morning, promises of God, sky, stars

Look Up

The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the works of His hands (Psalm 19:1).

Our family lives outside the city limits between the Atlantic Ocean and the Cape Fear River, so the sky is very dark at night. But its darkness grows blacker during the wee hours of the morning right before the sun announces the new day. This has become my favorite hour because the stars are brighter against the deep mahogany curtain.

If a child’s giggles could be painted, it would be captured by the dancing glitter above my sleepy morning head. How I love the stars. They give me hope.

The morning stars promise that there is a loving God who cared enough to freckle the sky with pin-points of light. He didn’t have to do that. He made some stars bright and some dim; He fashioned shapes and gave them purpose. He gave us the Northern star that faithfully stands as a beacon for those who’ve lost their way.

What kind of God does that?

A good one.

A God who knows His children. He knows some of us fancy glitter while others prefer practical. He combined the fulfillment of our needs as He spoke the stars into space. But He did so much more than bling the night sky or provide a map for sailors lost at sea. He looked beyond this world, and He promised eternity.

Eternity. The reason why our hearts are often discontent in this place. There is so much more beyond our touch. Sometimes I just need to be reminded of this when life seems heavy and the dirt under my feet turns into mud.

Jesus loves us. I think the sky is proof. Look up.

What reminds you of God’s love?

Much grace,

andy
