Do You Need Rest Too?

Do you need rest

A couple of years ago, this is what my spirit kept hearing.

Enter into my rest. Live out of my reservoir of joy. Peace. Ability.

“What’s that mean Lord? How do I do that?” I countered.

I pictured myself falling backwards into a large pool of water. Under the water was the sound of peace. The water engulfed me. I was not afraid. I floated to the top. All was good. And I was at rest. Refreshed.

“What’s it mean Lord? How do I do that?” I questioned as the pain in my shoulders increased.

Do you trust me?

“Yes Lord, but I’m very much on this earth. My feet are in the dust. My friends’ feet are in the dust. There is so much pain. So much strife. Life is so hard.”

Enter my rest. It’s supernatural. Take my yoke upon you for my yoke is easy and my burden in light.

“Yes, Lord.”

I don’t do this perfectly. Some weeks I’m better than others, but I’ve learned that . . .

Entering His rest is a choice. The choice is the effort. The rest is His.

I want to invite you to join me as I continue to seek His rest. I don’t mean I’m going to be eating bonbons all day, lying on the couch. I want to be productive, but if I try to be productive out of my own strength, I will not get very much done. If I share the gospel out of my own brain, it will not reach any one’s heart. I want to live out of the supernatural yet in this skin.

How do we live out of His rest, His abundance, His reservoir?

  • Spend time every morning in silence with Him before you start your day. Pray and read the Word. Fill up with Him. (10-15 minutes at least.)
  • Take one thing off your plate. Pray for discernment. Trust someone else can do the job and actually wants to!
  • Go to bed early. Or sneak a 20 minute nap into your day. (Literally get rest.)

 

May I pray for us?

“Dear God,
We are all busy. Life has thrown many curves our way. Thank you for Jesus! We need you! Help us live out of your rest. Your glorious riches in Christ. They are for us. Our lives are the testimony. Take away our striving. Help us live out of You. Amen.”

I’m wondering what this will look like for you. As God gives you visions or His peace becomes reality will you share with us? Encourage us with the work of the Spirit in your life.

 

A better prayer:

I pray that out of His glorious riches He may strengthen you with power through His Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power , together with all the saints to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge–that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God (until it oozes out of you!) Ephesians 3:16-19
