Choosing to Live

I wrote this poem three years ago. At the time, the days were very quiet. Life had gone from full speed to slow. That happens when you start over in a new place. Three years later the pace has almost picked up to what it had been. But the scenery is different.

I’m on a journey learning how to place my dreams in God’s hands. Really, I’m just thankful I have dreams. I remember a day when I couldn’t think of any. That was an empty day. But God was faithful.

The future is blurry. I have no idea what it holds, but I’m choosing to trust, to live where He has me, and to delight in His Presence.

Choosing to Live
How is it that the weeks seem
To go by so slowly,
But the months seem to fly?
How is it that in a moment
I cannot wait to leave,
But I mourn the goodbye?
How is it, O God that you
Can seem so far away from me,
But you are so very near?
And why is it that when
I need to hear from you most,
My ears seem to no longer hear?
I will  Live in the place
You’ve called me to for now.
I’ll choose to give thanks while
 My knees will bow.
Help me live where you have me
Not focused on the holes within
But filled with your purpose and peace.
Today with new hope I begin.
Trust in the Lord and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture. Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. (Psalm 37:3-4).
Grace and peace,
andy
