Childlike Faith

Life always brings challenges. And that is a good thing. Right? Hopefully, challenges will turn our face upward to the One who can help us.

In earlier years, I had no problem going to God right away when I had a problem. I spent little time worrying about the future and who would pay for college tuition or which job we should take, or where we would live because I knew God HAD IT! I’ve had such strong faith. Until now.

Maybe something happens when you turn 40. At 40 you begin to realize that the money doesn’t just appear in the bank, the jobs aren’t always hunky-dory, and the place you live just might be a lonely place. At 40 your body starts to feel aches and pains and those you love experience sickness and death. It’s inevitable. And so with the realities of life, childlike faith begins to waver.

This is why Jesus said over and over to come to Him as a child. Children who have loving parents feel secure. They don’t worry (at least until school age!) In the same way, children don’t question the love of Jesus. The little children in the Bible just climbed right up into His lap. No questions, no fears. Right in His lap. Some of the other adults didn’t approve, but Jesus loved it.

How I pray for childlike faith again. I pray this for all of us. If you are struggling with your faith, may I invite you to climb into His lap with me? Take some time today to turn off all noise and sit quietly with your face toward heaven. Close your eyes and envision yourself as a child climbing into Jesus’ lap. He’s been waiting for us to come. May we believe!

“Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. I tell you the truth, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it. And He took the children in His arms and blessed them.” (Mark 1014-16)

Much love,
andy
