change, heaven, seasons

Anticipation

Something wonderful happened this morning. It was 68 degrees with no humidity! (That I could feel.)This is the first morning in weeks that I just had to get out of my house to go for a walk. Hallelujah!
As I clipped down the road with my music in my ears and my brain focusing on the post for today, I  couldn’t help but think of the irony of it all. I chuckled to myself as I realized that today I would write about the anticipation of the changing season and cooler weather while just 5 months ago I was writing about the hope of summer coming!
There is something inside of us always longing–always anticipating something better. Something more wonderful than what we are experiencing at the moment. But rather than beat us up (or myself) for this common human trait, I think I’m going to embrace it! This longing in me for something, some season, some place to be perfect is something placed in me and you by the Creator Himself.
I’m convinced that we are not made to be content in this skin on this earth. We were made for more, and this longing in us is the longing for heaven. A longing for God Himself.
So, today as I enjoy the cool weather that will probably only last for another hour, I am going to make it a reminder of even greater things to come. I choose to live today purposefully in this season, but my hope and final destination is ever before me as I do so.
How would we live differently if we lived in anticipation of heaven as if we were going to be there tomorrow?
Much love,
andy
ps. Thanks for your prayers and comments on Friday’s post. Move-in day went great. I am filled with peace, and Stephen was the happiest I’ve seen him in a long time. That did my heart good. He’s ready.
No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love Him. (Isaiah 64:4)
