Daily Bible, dance, lovers, seal, Song of Solomon

A Morning Confession

Mike and I are reading the Daily Bible (almost daily). He reads the long Old Testament section, and I read the  New Testament, Psalm and Proverb. This morning we found ourselves reading a lover’s letter to his beloved. We read Song of Solomon.

I confess, as Mike read the scripture, I found myself feeling 14 again as I tried to restrain the giggles threatening to explode out of my mature 45 year old brain. “Just breathe…be serious….this is God’s Word.”

Anyway, despite my immaturity, God spoke. I was reminded of a verse that brought healing to my broken heart last year. The words were like meeting an old friend after a long absence. I just don’t read this book of the Bible very often. How many of us do? Yet these words warmed my heart just as they had 12 months ago.

Place me like a seal over your heart,
like a seal on your arm;
for love is as strong as death,
it’s jealousy unyielding as the grave.
It burns like a blazing fire,
like a mighty flame.
Many waters cannot quench love;
rivers cannot wash it away.
(Song of Solomon 8:6-7a)

My sister’s death had caused a deep wound to form in my heart. But one day, God supernaturally sealed that wound with Himself. I can’t explain it. It was warm and gentle and free. I only remember I felt it as I danced for Him. I gave up questioning, desperately missed my trust in Him, surrendered, and danced.

HE LOVES US more than we can comprehend. His jealousy for us is as certain as death.

Even through my giggles, Jesus found me this morning. Where did He find you?

Much love,
andy
